This work, purporting to be the account of Lewis and Clark's expedition, is in fact merely a compilation of bits and pieces already in print, including parts of Jefferson's Message of 1806, William Clark's letter from Saint Louis, segments of Patrick Gass's diary, a careful plagiarization of portions of Jonathan Carver's Travels, first published in 1778, and sections of Alexander Mackenzie's Voyages. Cf. Wagner-Camp. Includes vocabulary of the Knisteneaux (Cree) Indian language. LC copy lacks original map, has facsimile of folded map on one leaf in pocket.
