On verso of t.-p.: Colonial tracts, no. 17.

Caption title: Colonial tracts, vol. 2, no. 5.

Reprint from Force tracts, v. 2, no. 6.

The tract as originally published by Peter Force was reprinted from the Virginia gazette, no. 1176, April 21, 1774, with the omission of an unsigned introductory note. The "Extract" consists principally of an abridged transcript of a declaration against the Virginia Company, adopted April 1, 1642, by the governor, Council and House of Burgesses of Virginia, and the reply thereto of King Charles, dated July 5, 1642.

The "Manuscript collection" mentioned in the title is apparently the volume of "Virginia miscellaneous records, 1606-1692" (the so-called "Bland ms.") now preserved in the Library of Congress. In this volume the declaration and reply covers p. 106-114. The declaration is printed in Hening's Statutes at large ... of Virginia, v. 1, p. [230]-236.
