Subjects include army life, illnesses, casualties, and troop movements.  Diaries also contain entries pertaining to civilian life in New York following the war, financial accounts, and lists of correspondence sent and received.  Also includes a diary (1857 January 1-December 30) kept by Borthwick relating to personal affairs
