  <abstract>Diaries (1864 January 1-1865 December 2) kept by Borthwick during his Civil War service with the 157th New York Infantry Regiment in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.  Subjects include army life, illnesses, casualties, and troop movements.  Diaries also contain entries pertaining to civilian life in New York following the war, financial accounts, and lists of correspondence sent and received.  Also includes a diary (1857 January 1-December 30) kept by Borthwick relating to personal affairs.</abstract>
