Other topics include the Black Hawk War, depletion of buffalo herds in the 1870s, and Gallaher's boyhood encounter with Zachary Taylor.  Includes a transcript of the memoir by Mary Gallaher Leigh (1983) and a photocopy of an undated photograph of William Gallaher.</abstract>
