Two bound volumes containing files kept by the Jesuits, the original owners of the hacienda, relating principally to the areas surrounding the Laguna de Cuitzeo, Michoacán de Ocampo, Mexico. Records include correspondence, royal decrees, deeds of gift, estate inventories, fiscal accounts, bills of sale, land grants, legal suits and countersuits, mortgage loans, rental agreements, wills and testaments, and other records kept by the Jesuit owners of the hacienda. Subjects include the acquisition and sale of land, ownership disputes, property boundaries, water rights, rental of property, agricultural production, livestock and livestock brands, the role of women in the operation of the estate, relations with the Indians of Mexico, the Colegio de Valladolid, the San José de Queréndaro Hacienda, and neighboring smaller estates and their owners. Later records relate to the acquisition of the hacienda by Francisco de Arteta y Verganza and Leonor de Sámano y Sesati in 1702 and by Andrés de Peña in 1745. Other individuals represented include Domingo de Bustamante, Leonor de Cárdenas, Gerónimo Gil de Cárdenas, Diego de Espinosa Monzón, Baltasar Pérez Gallegos, Juan de la Rea, Gregorio González de Rebolledo, Fausto Francisco de la Roca, Juan Sánchez Paniagua, and Juan de Villaseñor.
