Also includes letters to his daughter from Civil War soldiers, an account by Mrs. William Watson Wicks of an interview with Martin Van Buren and White House social events, and an 1872 diary kept by Barbour's son, Linus, at Amherst College.  Correspondents include James Buchanan, Schuyler Colfax, and Oliver P. Morton.</abstract>
