Documents his service in the Philippines as secretary of commerce, vice-governor, governor general, and member of the U.S. Philippine Commission.  Also documents his work as receiver of the Brazil Railway Company, member or chairman of presidential missions to study conditions in Haiti and the Philippines, U.S. ambassador to Japan, chairman of the American Economic Mission to the Far East, and partner or director in several American business and banking firms.  Includes correspondence transcribed along with daily entries and printed items.  Correspondents include Emilio Aguinaldo, Warwick Greene, James G. Harbord, Warren G. Harding, Francis Burton Harrison, Conrad Hatheway, Herbert Hoover, Frank Ross McCoy, Sergio Osmeña, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, Henry L. Stimson, William H.
