Includes materials from his work as editor of the Illinois Historical Collections, The Territorial Papers of the United States (1934- ), and The Correspondence of General Thomas Gage (1969), including transcripts of Gage's correspondence.  Also includes material relating to Clarence Walworth Alvord's The Illinois Country, 1673-1818 (1920); and early family correspondence, genealogical material, and a manuscript history of the Carter-Robinson and associated families.  Correspondents include Carter's mother, Anna Rogers Carter; his wife, Lillie Carter; his sons, Harold E. Carter and Wilfrid Carter; his brother, Fred Armstrong Carter; Frederick Jackson Turner; and servicemen during the Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II.</abstract>
