Topics include the War of 1812, national and New Hampshire state politics, Republican and Whig politics in New Hampshire, the Missouri Compromise, slavery, the Seminole War, the Panic of 1837, life in the U.S. Navy, military hospitals during the Civil War, and commerce in New England following the Civil War.  Includes an account by an American combatant of the British attack on Fort McHenry and Baltimore, Md., in 1814.</abstract>
