Correspondence, articles, biographies, date books, diaries, radio scripts, histories, speeches, and other papers documenting Allen's career as editor of Harper's Magazine, director of the Foreign Policy Association, author of many popular works on American social history, and an overseer of Harvard University. Includes a correspondence file on Allen's 1947 speech (1947) on journalists' attitude toward American industry; diaries kept on trips to London (1943) and to San Francisco (1945); and literary files containing manuscripts of his writings together with notes, outlines, original and revised drafts. Also includes correspondence relating to particular writings and preliminary notes for an unpublished biography of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Family correspondents include Allen's sister, Hildegarde Allen.
