Correspondence, diaries and journals, military papers, maps, clippings, and other papers reflecting Heintzelman's career in the U.S. Army from his years at the U.S. Military Academy through the Civil War. The diaries and journals (1825-1872) describe Heintzelman's participation in the 2nd Seminole War and the Creek War, his activities during the Mexican War, his service as corps commander under Gen. Heintzelman also describes his surveys of Lake Huron and the history and culture of Indian tribes in Arizona and southern California. Correspondents include Henry W.
