Correspondence, letterbooks, diary, account books, ledgers, inventories, indexes, receipts, and estate and other papers documenting Koch's activities as a merchant and marine insurance broker in Amsterdam (1787-1790), Alexandria, Va. (1790-1792), and Philadelphia, Pa. (1792-1817), and reflecting his business dealings in Europe, Latin America, and North America. His diary (1817-1818) describes a trip to Paris, France. Also includes a 1941 published version of the memoirs (1791-1841) of Charles Nicholas Buck, U.S. consul general at Hamburg.
