Includes material on his service aboard the USS Vandalia (Screw sloop) during the 1889 hurricane in Samoa; his service aboard the USS Cincinnati (Cruiser) during the Spanish-American War; U.S. Marine Corps operations in Haiti and Panama and Veracruz Llave, Mexico; his service with the U.S. Army American Expeditionary Forces in France and Germany during World War I; and his work as superintendent of the Virginia Military Institute.
