Includes 2 accounts by Abbott of Abraham Lincoln's visit to Fort Stevens, Washington, D.C., (1864 July) when the fort was under attack by Confederate troops commanded by Gen. Jubal Early; Abbott's description of his experiences in a hurricane near Key West, Fla., in 1869, when he was assigned to the 3d U.S. artillery; and a synopsis of Abbott's military career by Col. Benjamin F. Fisher.
